Dermatopathology Lab

Affiliated Laboratories® is a lab designed by a surgeon for surgeons.

Since opening its doors in 2006, Affiliated Laboratories® understands the clinical impact of a microscopic diagnosis and has processed over a half-million skin biopsies. We offer diagnostic expertise and unparalleled service in the evaluation of dermatologic disorders ranging from routine to the most difficult cases. Accredited by the College of American Pathologists, our carefully designed system is focused on serving the dermatopathology needs of all providers who perform skin biopsies.

Michael A. Casey, MD, FCAP

Dermatopathologistt

Dr. Casey was born and raised in St. Louis, MO where his mother was unfortunately diagnosed with breast cancer which inspired him to consider a career in medicine. He graduated from Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI, majoring in biomedical engineering with a minor in biology. He went on to earn his MD from Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he developed an interest in pathology. Having been fortunate enough to complete an elective rotation in Dermatopathology as a medical student, he decided to work towards sub-specialization in skin pathology. It was the visual nature of pathology combined with the ability to play a role in fighting cancer which attracted Dr. Casey to pathology.

Following the residency match, Dr. Casey moved to New York City to join the anatomic and clinical pathology residency program at NYU Langone Medical Center and Bellevue Hospital. He then accepted a dermatopathology fellowship position at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx where he trained at Montefiore Medical Center, Jacobi Hospital, and Dermpath Diagnostics – New York. Dr. Casey is board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and in dermatopathology.

Dr. Casey is excited to live in a climate where pools stay open all year long and is looking forward to exploring the hiking and natural beauty that we are blessed to be surrounded by here in the desert!
