Did you know: 1 in 5 people will develop some type of skin cancer by age 70? For this reason, we provide mobile dermatology care to seniors in retirement, independent, and assisted living communities. Our mission is to improve access to skincare so that everyone, at any age, can care for the skin they are in! Check out Affiliated Dermatology’s Leigha Shilhanek, NP on ABC15 Arizona’s Sonoran Living with Susan Casper to learn more about our mobile dermatology services for seniors.

What is Mobile Dermatology?

Affiliated Dermatology provides mobile dermatology care to seniors in retirement, independent, and assisted living communities within the greater Phoenix area. A certified specialist will come to the senior to provide a comprehensive skin examination and treatment.

Why Mobile Dermatology for Seniors?

Many seniors struggle to make it into the office. They may not drive anymore or there may be physical or mental impairments. We are trying to improve access to care so that everyone, at any age, can care for the skin they are in. We have noted an unmet need in the community, and hope to build this service to reach more vulnerable seniors.

What can be done at these visits?

It is the same as visiting the office. We can do full body skin examinations, spot checks, evaluate rashes, biopsy concerning lesions, treat pre-cancers, and prescribe medications. We can do everything we do in the office, with the exception of surgeries. We will provide follow up care at a subsequent mobile visit if needed or schedule patient at one of our 8 valley offices for any necessary surgical procedures.

What is the cost?

We are contracted with most major insurance companies. Patient will be responsible for any co-payments associated with a specialty visit depending on insurance, same as if they came into the office.

What special skin care considerations are there for seniors?

Data shows 1 in 5 people will develop some type of skin cancer by age 70. It’s important to have skin checks regularly for signs of cancer or other conditions.

Who is providing the services?

Our certified Nurse Practitioner, Leigha Shilhanek.
